I worked my 2 geldings today & gave lessons this afternoon. I enjoyed last
week very much, and learned a great deal, but it felt great to be back with my herd.
Attached is a photo of Mischief & me last summer. Take a deep breath, exhale, lean up a little
& he pops right into an easy lope. Sit back & he slides to a stop. These little cutters are cute &
fun to ride.
I'll let you know how it's going with getting horses to train. I'll need a dozen or so to get down the
fine tuning. Your way of getting the horses to drive off is so clear to horses & I see my own horses becoming fluid & graceful in their turns just after one session. I know those of us who work behind the scenes don't always get our credit due. Just know I appreciated your help.Your presentation skills are excellent & it is obvious you know this system inside out.
If you ever get down this way, I'd be happy to show you Austin's nightlife & go out on a ride in the woods at the nearby nature preserve.
Take care my friend,
~Becky

Horse Whispering in Las Cascades, Mexico
I booked a weeks horse riding adventure holiday in Mexico and realized on the flight over that I was terrified. I had never ridden a horse before and in fact I had a deep rooted fear of horses that led to my constant avoidance of these animals over the years. Arriving in Mexico it was straight off to the horses to assess our level. Standing in front of the horse I knew that I could not just ride a horse I did not know how to getup on one. I feared the sniggers of my friends and the disdain of the gauchos at my ignorance but of course I had nothing to fear as Katherine came along just at that moment and noticed my discomfort. She advised me to get to know my horse by petting him, walking around him and talking to him. So I started to get to know my horse, Merlin and instantly my fear of getting up on the horse began to reside a little. I struggled getting up on the horse but once up, Katherine again advised to get comfortable and sit straight with my ears cocked and the balls of my feet resting in the stirrups. As we walked along through the stunning backdrop of cactuses, glistening streams and rolling hills, Katherine taught me the greatest lesson about horse riding which is to engage with your horse, stoke your horse and your horse will work for you. Katherine’s teaching style is natural as she imparts simple, humane, common sense techniques about riding horses. I cannot thank Katherine enough as this advice ensured that I was galloping by the third day and totally enjoying the experience.
